Abel C. Ruiz, a native Austinite, has been a lifetime resident of South Austin. He grew up in a political family and was exposed to city-wide elections when his dad ran for AISD School Board. This encouraged Abel to speak up for himself and others from an early age and began to speak competitively as a Freshman in high school in Speech and Debate. He was also elected Class President that same year. He graduated from S.F. Austin High School and then enrolled at Saint Edward’s University in Austin, TX where both his parents graduated. He was elected to the Student Government Association.
One of his first jobs at the age of 20 was as a messenger for the Texas House of Representatives. Abel gained extensive knowledge of the governmental process and working with constituents and other governmental agencies. The specialized experience he gained helped him to work for a major law firm, a State Representative and a House Committee.
In 1996, Abel enlisted in the United States Air Force as an Aircraft Armament Systems technician. He spent 5 years overseas working on F-15Cs before deciding to return home. He spent time working throughout the US in Aviation, Oil & Gas and IT before relocating back to Austin in 2005. During this time, he briefly worked retail before returning to IT while beginning to create and maintain a database of contacts. He also gained service industry experience at one restaurant before managing another on in The Domain shopping center. In late 2007, he was asked by his brother to help run his campaign for US Congress. After an unsuccessful bid, Abel returned to work in the Oil & Gas industry. In late 2008, the industry was hindered by national economic conditions and falling gas prices. After being laid off, Abel thought about starting his own business.
“Our greatest industries in this country today are the new ones. And they are all dominated by young men who…suppose that anything they imagine they can do. Fundamentally they are right.”

Many had believed social networking was for teens and young adults, but when Abel’s mom started using Facebook he knew this was only the beginning. In January 2009, Abel started RCS-Austin. As an innovator in the industry, Abel is constantly looking for new ways to integrate all aspects of social media for the benefit of individuals, companies, non-profits, events, etc.
